Siddhasana (Accomplished Pose)
Siddhasana is derived from Sanskrit, where “siddha” means “accomplished” and “asana” means “pose”. Siddhasana is also called Accomplished pose. If you practice this asana, your posture improves significantly. It can also lengthen your spine and also opens up the chest. It is an ideal pose for meditation. This asana also improves the flexibility of the hips and groin.
How To Do It?
⦁ You can start by sitting in Dandasana. Bend the left leg and slide the foot under the perineum.
⦁ Then, you have to bend the right leg over the left one, and press its heel against the pubis. Thereafter, you have to place the right ankle over the left one. You can also dig the right toes into the space between the left thigh and calves.
⦁ Ground the hip bones down into the floor and reach the crown of the head up to the length of the spine.
⦁ Relax the face, jaws, and belly. You can take on any of the mudras like Shambhavi mudra and Gyan mudra.
⦁ Breathe deeply through the nose down till the belly. Hold as long as you are comfortable. You can release the pose slowly.
Benefits
⦁ Siddhasana leads to the purification of the 72,000 nadis that run through the body. It is mainly due to the activation of the Muladhara chakra.
⦁ Your flexibility will also increase, as a result.
⦁ If you sit in Siddhasana, and meditate, you will be able to calm the nervous system.
⦁ If you practice this asana regularly, your prostrate problems also get solved.
⦁ It also helps in controlling excessive sexual desires.
⦁ It also increases the flow of blood around the abdomen, legs, and groin area.
Contraindications
⦁ If you have injuries in the spine, you must avoid this pose.
⦁ Those having injuries in the hips, knees, and ankles must also avoid this asana.
⦁ If you are suffering from Arthritis, you must not put additional pressure on the affected parts of the legs. If you are not careful, it can also lead to inflammation.
⦁ If you have sacral infection, then you must not practice this asana.
⦁ All those who suffer from Sciatica pain, must also avoid this asana.
