Balasana (Child’s Pose) - Steps, Benefits and Contraindications.

Balasana is derived from Sanskrit words “Baby” means “child”, “Pose” means “asana”. It is basically a resting pose. You can also call it a fetal pose. You will be able to get relief from back pain, if you practice this pose on a daily basis. It will also calm you emotionally. It is a forward bending pose, and a sitting pose as well. It is mostly practiced in any yoga class, after a few vigorous poses.

How To Do It?

⦁ You can start from the Vajrasana, in this asana.
⦁ Spread your knees as wide as possible, while keeping the big toes in contact with one another.
⦁ Slowly bend and bring the torso to rest between your thighs. Exhale as you do so. Thereafter, your forehead should touch the floor. You can also turn your head to one side with your cheek resting on the floor. If you choose to do that, it’s a good idea to switch to the other cheek about halfway through the practice.
⦁ There are two possible arm variations. Either stretch your arms in front of you with the palms facing the floor or bring your arms back alongside your thighs with the palms facing upwards.
⦁ Stay as long as you like, while breathing normally in this asana.

Contraindications

⦁ If you are suffering from any sort of stomach ailment like Diarrhea, then you must avoid doing this pose.
⦁ If you have high blood pressure, you must avoid this asana.
⦁ If you have any injuries in your neck, thigh, feet, knees, and spine, then you should avoid this pose.
